How to insert and format a header and footer in Excel?

To insert and format a header and footer in Excel, please follow these steps:

  1. Open your Excel spreadsheet.
  2. Click on the "Insert" tab in the Excel ribbon at the top of the screen.
  3. In the "Text" group, click on the "Header & Footer" button. This will open the header and footer editing mode.
  4. The header and footer sections will now be visible at the top and bottom of the worksheet in a special editing mode.
  5. In the header section, click on the left, center, or right section to add your desired content. You can insert page numbers, dates, times, file names, sheet names, or custom text.
  6. Similarly, in the footer section, click on the left, center, or right section to add your desired content.
  7. Use the options in the "Header & Footer Tools" Design tab that appears when you are editing the header or footer to format the content. You can change font styles, sizes, add borders, use different alignment settings, and more.
  8. To exit the header and footer editing mode, you can either click on the "Go to Header & Footer" button on the ribbon or simply double-click anywhere on the worksheet area.

Note: When you exit the header and footer editing mode, the headers and footers will remain visible in a faded format on the worksheet. You can disable this view by going to the "View" tab in the Excel ribbon and unchecking the "Page Layout" option.

Also, remember to check the "Print Preview" to see how the header and footer will appear on the printed page.
