How to extract the day, month, or year from a date using the DAY, MONTH, and YEAR functions in Excel?

To extract the day, month, or year from a date using the DAY, MONTH, and YEAR functions in Excel, follow these steps:

  1. Open a new or existing Excel spreadsheet.
  2. Enter the date you want to extract the day, month, or year from in a cell. For example, enter "01/15/2022" in cell A1.
  3. In another cell, enter the following formula to extract the day: =DAY(A1). This formula will return the day of the date in cell A1.
  4. Press Enter to get the result.

To extract the month, use the formula =MONTH(A1).

To extract the year, use the formula =YEAR(A1).

In our example, if you enter "=MONTH(A1)" in another cell, it will return "1" as the month. If you enter "=YEAR(A1)", it will return "2022" as the year.
